Make the First Step Easy

Submitted by James Higginbotham on June 9, 2009 – 5:51 amNo Comment

As a rule, do you tend to make things easy or difficult? I’ve seen (and been) both types at times. I used to make things difficult. I’d select the solutions most difficult to build and teach. I was never successful at recruiting volunteers to help me.

Then one day I woke up one day and realized that people like simple. Simple steps. Simple outcomes.Mankind spend millions, or even billions, of dollars trying to make things simple. We buy “as seen on TV” items because they are supposed to make life simple.

When we ask people to take too big of a leap, they stop. They become faced with their fear of failure, their fear of commitment, their fear of complexity.

Want more volunteers to help? Want those standing on the sidelines to jump in and lend a hand?

Make it pain-free. Make it a “no brainer” to step in and help.  Make the first step easy.
