Volunteers bring talent and passion – listen to them

Submitted by James Higginbotham on June 11, 2008 – 8:00 amNo Comment

Your volunteers probably didn’t go to seminary. They don’t read Hebrew or Greek. They didn’t attend classes on church administration. But they still have a lot to contribute to your church.

The Apostle Paul says that we all have something to contribute and brings us together as a body for this exact reason:

“If each part of the body were the same part, there would be no body. But truly God put all the parts, each one of them, in the body as he wanted them.” (1 Cor 12:19 NCV)

We have all read this verse and often think about spiritual gifts. But what about their talents and skills? Your volunteers may know how to architect a building, install new electrical circuits, make the best blended espresso drink, or write ciricuulum for a fifth grade class.

Listen to your volunteers when you are working on a new project. Let them help you. They really want to lend their expertise.
