Volunteers have a lot on their mind besides church – remind them often

Submitted by James Higginbotham on June 9, 2008 – 8:00 amOne Comment

Pay bills. Go to work. Take care of the kids. Attend church service. Attend a home group. Take care of the lawn. Repair the car. Plan family trips.

Volunteers have a lot to deal with each week in addition to their volunteer service. They love giving their time to your church, but volunteering it isn’t the first thing they think about when they wake up or the last thing they think about as we are going to bed. It isn’t their primary job.

Your volunteers need to be reminded why they are serving. They need to know what kind of impact they are making. Did they help someone out? Let them know. Did your volunteers make an impact in the community recently? Share it with them. Is there a big picture vision they are all striving to attain? Remind them.

Spending a few minutes reminding your volunteers why they serve prior to their door greeter shift on Sunday will go a long way. Taking a few minutes each Sunday to explain the impact their time is making with a missionary will inspire them. Remind them often.

  • This is a great reminder. Volunteers are people. People don’t volunteer in a vacuum. This is extremely vital to remember in successfully executing the ministry to which God has called them.
