Memories of 9/11

Submitted by James Higginbotham on September 11, 2006 – 8:09 amNo Comment

At the 5th anniversary of 9/11, I was caught in memory lane along with so many other bloggers. I debated on whether to post my memories of the day to my blog, or if I should just move on. I’ve decided to go ahead and post them.

On the morning of 9/11, I was listening to a news radio station while driving into the office of my startup. I had just kicked off a startup in May and was busy working on finalizing the code for a demo to some potential investors. I heard a radio newsbreak about the first plane striking the tower. Once I got inside the office, I turned on our small TV (we used it to test the cable modem connection when it was installed and never removed it). As I was watching the replay of the first plane hitting the tower, they cut to a live picture as the second tower was struck. I was the first one in the office, so as the rest of the team came in, most hadn’t heard. My partner and I looked at the TV and realized that magnitude of what was happening. We all spent a little more time hugging our family in the days after. We also spent less time at work, as life held more meaning and seemed just a bit shorter. Things would never be the same, though after a while we would slowly start to forget the full impact of that day as we moved on. We also realized that our startup wouldn’t be the same (we closed up 2 weeks later).
