I attended the [tag]Maximum Impact 2006[/tag] simulcast at Bethany Methodist Church in Austin, TX on Friday. Overall it wasn’t bad, though it wasn’t as nice as last year. The best speaker was [tag]Tim Sanders[/tag], who was a polished speaker and had the most to say. There was a bit of overlap with last year’s speakers, and one speaker even used the same presentation (though, he did admit it). The low point was Kathy Ireland’s presentation, which based on the title sounded great, but when presented was less than exciting. Looking around, it appears I wasn’t the only one distracted. Hopefully, she’ll improve with time, as her topic was important (”Balancing Faith, Family, and Work”). [tag]Dave Ramsey[/tag] preceded her though, so she had a tough pair of shoes to fill (if you haven’t seen Dave Ramsey at a conference, it is an experience). Last I heard, Bethany’s attendance wasn’t as large as last year, but the overall simulcast attendance for Austin was at least double, due to the additional 5 locations around the area (4 more than last year). I did notice a new mixture of attendees at our location, so it appears that there were quite a few new attendees, including one that said he didn’t have anything else going on and showed up at the door after an invitation by a friend. Who says word of mouth doesn’t work?

Hey thanks for the link! I too thought Sanders was the best speaker. Our attendance was down from last year, but the people who came seem to have enjoyed themselves. Take care! Oh yeah, check out maximumimpact.com they’ve posted summaries of each presentation for download. Peace!

God’s Word teaches us that difficulties will arise in our leadership. Paul is the most memorable example, as he struggled with imprisonment, beatings, shipwrecks, and even near-death to take the gospel to other parts of the world.
Guy Kawasaki put together a set of guidelines for using PowerPoint several years ago. While focused mostly toward startups doing pitches to venture capitalists, I think these rules can be used for leaders that cannot …
Often, leaders get so focused on leading their team that they can sometimes get confused on who they are competing against to recruit new volunteers or launch a new event. Don’t let yourself get confused on who you are competing against when trying to find volunteers.
