7 Things Your Church Staff Wish You Knew

Submitted by James Higginbotham on May 18, 2008 – 8:15 pm2 Comments

If you are a ministry leader, you are most likely a volunteer and report to a staff member directly or indirectly. I’ve noticed recently that ministry leaders don’t really understand what their staff expect. This is due either to the staff being too busy to communicate, or because the staff prefer to just leave things status quo.

Over the next two weeks, we are going to discuss the 7 things that your church staff wish you knew as a ministry leader:

  1. Church staff don’t know everything about running a church – help them
  2. Church staff are too busy for the technical details – guide them
  3. Church staff want you to build the team and recruit volunteers – support them
  4. Church staff like to know what your team has donetell them
  5. Church staff want to know what your team is doinginform them
  6. Church staff need to know where your team is goingengage them
  7. Church staff want to help youlet them

So, why not invite a friend to join us as we learn how you and your fellow ministry leaders can make a larger impact in their church by understanding what your church staff wish you knew!

  • I really like the premise of your blog. I write some in the agile software development space, specifically around project managment. I believe that many of the same principles apply in all kinds of organizations. I draw alot of my ideas from my church, a small school I run, Boy Scouts of America, etc.

I wrote a post called Leading Volunteers a few months back that has turned into a workshop at the Agile2008 conference.

Keep up the good work, I really appreciate your insights!

  • Thanks Mike! I’m a software architect myself, so that is why a lot of it is probably familiar. Thanks for the link to your blog post – I really like what you had to say.
