Leadership Essentials: Seek First

Submitted by James Higginbotham on May 24, 2010 – 4:11 amNo Comment

Effective leadership starts with seeking God. Whether you are leading a team at work, at the church, or at home, we are told to seek God first. When we seek God first, our leadership experience is dynamic and rich. When we don’t, it becomes dull and sometimes a burden.

What does this seeking look like? It starts with learning about Him through the daily study of His word. Are you giving the best part of your day to learning about Him by reading and studying His word? Or, are you reading a quick devotional, saying a quick prayer, and jumping into your day? Seeking God requires effort. It requires discipline. It requires focus.

Seeking God also requires that we spend time growing our relationship through prayer. Our prayer time must be more than a quick wish list. It should also be more than a long, monotonous list of wants. Our prayer life should be rich with listening and pouring our heart out to Him. It is during this time that we allow God to love on us and we then love God back.

Leadership should be a dynamic, rich experience that starts with seeking God. Resolve today to seek God daily, as often as possible and you will see a more dynamic and fruitful leadership experience.
