Everyday Leadership: Leading in the Church

Submitted by James Higginbotham on April 23, 2009 – 5:54 amNo Comment

I think it is important to have a reminder of why we lead in our church. It is about more than just a title. It is about more than just understanding more than others about the way your team works. It is about more than having the right skills.

Leading in the church is about serving.

Leading in the church is about giving.

Leading in the church is about stewardship.

Don’t let yourself get lazy or upset if you don’t hold a title. Don’t let yourself get caught up in your staff position or pay. Don’t let staff members dictate everything about your leadership.

Instead, seek God first. Seek His will. Seek His wisdom. Seek His direction.

It is time leaders in the church realize that the way we do things today won’t always be the same tomorrow.

Leadership requires us to realize that we serve something more than processes and procedures. These things are important to the daily execution of the church. But it isn’t the end, it is the means. Sometimes leadership requires change. And that change can’t always wait for paid staff to have the free time to tell you what to do.

It is time to lead the church. Are you ready?
