The Heart of a Leader

Submitted by James Higginbotham on April 13, 2009 – 5:37 amNo Comment

Ever have “one of those weeks”? Perhaps even “one of those months” or “one of those years”? Yeah, me too. Leading can take a toll on many of us, especially when things are not going quite right.

The heart of a leader is important. It determines more than whether you get things done – it determines how they get done and what happens to the hearts of others in the process.

See if any of these thoughts sound familiar:

  • “Well, at least I got it done!”
  • “If the staff doesn’t like it, they can find someone else!”
  • “I’m so tired of [insert volunteer name here] – I wish they’d find another team to join”
  • “That’s not in my job title”
  • “I can’t remember why I lead anymore”

Have you tested your heart lately? Struggling with your leadership role?

Take the time to stop and listen to God. Perhaps He wants to remind you what it is all about.
