For The Love of The Cause

Submitted by James Higginbotham on January 20, 2009 – 5:29 amNo Comment

Before Paul launches into his well-known definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13, he spends a little time focusing on the Corinthians out of control passion for spiritual gifts:

“…if I have a prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor 13:2 (ESV)

It is important to remember that our cause must be out of love. It can’t be out of our love for our gifts. Yes, God gifts us in a variety of ways – with talents, treasures, and spiritual gifts. But we must first have love, as defined by Paul in the rest of the 1 Corinthians 13.
