Taking the Time for Real Ministry

Submitted by James Higginbotham on July 23, 2008 – 5:00 amNo Comment

I want to revisit a story that I’ve mentioned here before, as many of you are new readers and may not have read about it previously. It is a great lesson about time:

A few weeks ago, I had a good friend and co-worker called me after dinner and asked if I would mind if he stopped by to pray with me. He knew that I was about to make some difficult decisions just like he was and he wanted to spend some time together. To be honest, my first instinct is to protect the time of my family – an overcorrection to mistakes of the past. I quickly got over that, given that I had just recently started discipling him and I love to be around and support those new in the faith. So, I gladly accepted his offer.

Needless to say, It was quite a blessing! We prayed freely, conversationally, and personally. We shared a very personal time together with the Lord. It also helped remind me about what it is like during those first few months of dedicating your life to Christ – that “first love” that is easily forgotten. Finally, it illustrated much of what I write about here – take the time to spend with others before you add more to your overburdened workload – whenever you possibly can.

This is where real ministry is at – so, why do we constantly add more work to our busy schedules and push out others?
