An Exercise in Upside-Down Ministry
I want to turn your ministry leadership upside-down for a minute. What if your team of volunteers disappeared and you had to recruit new ones? What if you couldn’t get anyone to commit beyond this weekend? What would you do differently?
You would probably need to find a way to train a new batch of volunteers quickly.
You might even consider not doing some of the things you do today, to save time or reduce the number of people you need.
Most likely, you would work a little harder to make their experience smooth and make them happier, in the hopes that they may come back again the next weekend. So, are you doing that for your volunteers that are serving this weekend?
How would you do things differently if the team that is serving you this Sunday might not be around the following weekend?
Would you get to know them more? Spend more time praying for them before/after they serve? Would you thank them for their hard work verbally and even give them a gift for sacrificing their time and energy?
Take some time and imagine yourself in this upside-down ministry. It will change the way you think about leading volunteers!
