Volunteer Centered Thoughts: Worshipful Leadership

I have a great friend in Christ who I had the pleasure of serving with for about a year before he helped plant a nearby church who taught me the true meaning of worshipful service. He would sing and praise God during our times together working on some of the most common things (fixing a network switch, building a new kiosk PC for Fellowship One, etc). He demonstrated what it means in Ro 12:1 to “offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.”

It is easy to get caught up in the act of leadership throughout the weeks and months. When you are raising up new leaders, it is even easier because you are often spending time building your leaders up as well as helping them in times of need.

Don’t let this cause you to fail to worship in your service of leadership! Instead:

1. Play some praise and worship music that everyone can enjoy while you are working together. If this isn’t possible, give a big smile to your team members and quote lyrics to encourage them
2. Don’t take your tasks so seriously that you lose touch with God and what he wants to do through you
3. Take the time to look around and see what God is doing in your church, community, and throughout the world – praise Him, realizing that He could be doing this without you but He chosen to include you!
