Volunteer-Centered Leader: Introduction

Submitted by James Higginbotham on November 25, 2007 – 8:39 pmNo Comment

I see it too often – churches and non-profits continuing to depend on volunteers to get things done, but never making that leap from volunteer-based to volunteer-centered. A volunteer-based approach will let an organization get things done effectively (”good enough” syndrome). A volunteer-centered organization is able to move into that “zone” where amazing things happen through the use of volunteer-based leadership.

To get started, let’s contrast what it looks like to be volunteer-based versus volunteer-centered using the table below:

table: volunteer-based versus volunteer-centered

As you can see, this may be a little different than you currently operate. It may even require a major shift in the way you do leadership for your church or non-profit. That is what this series is about – helping you get from volunteer-based to volunteer-centered.

Ready to get started? Then make sure you are subscribed to this blog, as there will be extra posts throughout the week that will expand on what we have talked about, and challenge you even further. It is easy, and free! In the next article, we’ll set the foundation that will take us through the entire series!
